  Chapter 1

  January 3014… Morning

Drake wakes with a start, grabs his guns and points them at the door; someone is banging on it. “Who is it?”

“Drake it’s me, Blaze, wake up.”

Drake lowers his guns and grins. “Give me a couple of minutes and I’ll come looking for you.”

Blaze grins on the other side of the door. “Ok I’ll be waiting for you at the Mission Post. We have our first Rank AA mission today.”

Drake smiles and shakes his head. “Got it, Blaze.”

Drake gets up, takes a shower, brushes his teeth and puts his dreads in a ponytail. When he’s finished with that he goes to his closet and takes out his normal uniform, which consists of a red shirt, black pants and a black coat. After he’s dressed he straps on his handguns and sword, opens the door of his room to leave and remembers his mirror lensed, wrap-around sun glasses are still in there. He’s not supposed to go out without them, but he decides to leave them because he’s in a good mood and, since no one has ever seen him without his glasses, he’s going to surprise everyone.

While walking to the Mission Post, everyone he passes looks at him in surprise and he can’t stop grinning because of it. When he arrives at the Mission Post, Blaze, and all the warriors with him, stare at Drake with shocked expressions on their faces.

Blaze looks at Drake with a studded expression on his face, “Why aren’t you wearing your sun glasses Drake?”

Drake answers him with a smirk, “Did you forget that we passed the Rank AA test yesterday and can, for the first time, be involved in the harder missions in The Lost City and that we can now roam free in all the Guilds and Ruins?”

“But that isn’t a reason for you not to be wearing your sun glasses. Even when we would dare you to take them off as children you wouldn’t.”

Drake raises his hands and stops Blaze, “I am in a good mood and I wanted to surprise you.”

Blaze, still looking slightly shocked, says with a grin, “Mission accomplished. I didn’t know your eyes were brown and, now that I look at you, you seem taller than I thought. How tall are you anyway?”

“I’m 6’1” tall and I have had brown eyes since I was born. I have also always worn my hair in dreads and pulled back in a ponytail. Anymore questions?”

Blaze considers Drake’s answer for a second, “No, everything is good.” Then he looks around and tells everyone else to leave.

After everyone leaves he looks at Drake, “Did you have any dreams last night?”

Drake looks at Blaze with a hard expression on his face and, in that moment, Blaze knew he shouldn’t have asked that question. He saw the moment Drake’s eyes turned completely black, which he’d never seen before because Drake always work his sun glasses, and knew, without a doubt, that he was in deep shit.

Just then the doors of the Mission Post open and Noryad walks in. Blaze sees Drake relax, and notices that his eyes return to normal, the instant Noryad enters the room.

Noryad, with a big smile on his face gives them both a slap on the back with a gloved hand, “Congrats my brothers on getting through the Rank AA test. I just came by to tell you both that I’m now Rank AA also.”

They can’t hide the surprised expressions that cross their faces because they weren’t expecting to receive such awesome news. Noryad, although the same age as them, had decided to wait another year before taking his rank test.

“Congrats brother.” Drakes says with a smile. “What made you change your mind about waiting?”

“I couldn’t let you two have all the fun. Plus I have to keep you both out of trouble.” Noryad answers before looking at each of them with a deadly expression. “I know what the two of you were talking about when I came in. Drake I have told you to never leave your room without your sun glasses; that if you do you must keep your temper in check.” He turns and looks at Blaze, “Blaze, I told you to never ask Drake that question when you are alone with him. If you do, for some unknown reason, need to ask it, then you have got to make sure I’m there with you. I’m not going to save your ass if you make that mistake again. Since the three of us were raised together we all know Drake has had the same dream, of a man and woman being tortured, every night for as long as we can remember. I know he did not have it last night so let’s see what we can do to keep it that way.”

Drake nods, “Yeah, let’s choose the mission we want to do.” In that moment the three of them start laughing,

“Yeah, let’s choose a mission” Blaze and Noryad say together.

As the three of them go through the missions available, Noryad notices something in one of the files, “Look guys, there’s a note in here.”

Drake and Blaze both look up and ask, in unison “What does it say?”

“The Saviors want us to know that The Lost City is safe from attack by the Destroyers. It also says that the war is still going on, even after one thousand years, but that they will keep the war away from the city. If any Destroyer were to slip by and get into the city they are to be killed immediately. It will now be our responsibility to take care of this because it is no longer their problem.” Noryad sneers.

“Who the fuck are the Saviors and Destroyers?” Drake asks, looking to Noryad for the answer.

Noryad answers calmly, “It seems to me the Saviors are the Angels and the Destroyers are the Demons.”

Drake’s pissed off about them naming themselves, “Now they have come up with names for themselves? Who do they think we are; slaves? Do they think we have to pay tribute to them? Well they can kiss my
ass!”

Noryad looks at them with disgust marring his features, “There are no Saviors or Destroyers to me because they are both destroyers. They are the reason humans live in fear. That people like us, with abilities, have to fight to keep the humans safe. There is no ruler in here. Order is kept by the four Guilds, who are the only ones with enough power to stand up to the Angels and Demons.”

“The four Guilds, named Never Too Late, The Reapers, The Trojan Horse and Last Choice, are the ones who keep the order here, but never mind that.” Drake looks at Noryad, “Did you chose the mission?”

“Yeah, we are going to kill the Destroyer Lieutenant who is somewhere in the city.”

“Now that’s more like it,” Drake says with a smile, “finally something to kill. I have been itching for a fight since I got out of bed. But we have to take this to the boss first to see if he approves it.”

Blaze, always the impatient one, says “What are we waiting for?” And the three of them leave for the Guild Leader’s office.

  Chapter 2

When they arrive at the office, before they can knock on the door, they hear their boss say “come in”. They open the door to find their boss, Vince Sky, looking at the city through his office window. He turns to face them with a hard expression on his face and a cold look in his eyes, “Congratulations on getting your Rank AA license for hunting.” Then he nods at them to let them know they have his permission to speak.

Noryad looks at him and says, “Hey boss, we have chosen our mission for today.”

Vince laughs, “Let me guess, the mission you have chosen is to kill the Destroyer Lieutenant that is in the city.”

The three of them look at each other with smiles on their faces and nod their heads in unison.

Vince, whose eyes have turned completely red, tells them with a lethal tone, “Did you know this Destroyer Lieutenant has already killed three members of the other Guilds that were Rank AA members like yourselves? Did you expect this to be a mission like the ones you have completed before? Not on your lives! If I allow you to take this mission today could be your last day alive. I know the three of you been doing missions since you were 16 years old, but that isn’t the point. The point is none of the other Guilds could manage to eliminate this threat, that is why it was sent here. We are the best at doing this, but be prepared because this Lieutenant is looking for someone and he will do anything to find this person. That’s all the news we have on him. To find out his whereabouts you must ask the barkeeper in the city because he’s the best when it comes to finding those who do not want to be found. Against my better judgment I approve this mission and advise you to stay alert at all times. Dismissed!”

The three of them turn to leave when Vince calls them back, “Go look for Brock. He’s in the underground blacksmith’s shop we have for him. I have asked him to make new weapons and clothing for you. Keep in mind that I chose these upgrades myself; I know you better than anyone and I know you will like them.”

Noryad tells Vince, “We got it boss,” then closes the door as they exit the office.

  ******

Upon leaving Vince’s office they go down to see Brock, but find him waiting for them on the main level. They follow him to the armory in the basement of the Guild’s headquarters.

When they arrive at the vast room Brock stops, picks up a sword and turns to Drake, “Drake, this is your new sword. The pommel is a wolf head and the grip is a comfortable one that has a design of a wolf biting the shoulder of the blade. This sword was made using demonic ore for the grip, pommel, and the Wolf head and angelic ore for the blade. I have also made you two new guns. One is made with angelic magic and the other with demonic magic. They don’t need bullets because your energy can make them work by just holding them and thinking about what you want to aim at. Your clothes, including the coat, are made with an ore that is resistant to anything, even magic.”

“Now for you Blaze, here are some gloves made out of fire ore and black ore. They can resist your temperature even while you’re using your abilities. Your clothes won’t burn anymore, even when you play with fire.”

Smiling a bit over his small joke Brock addresses Noryad, “For you Noryad, since you use magic, are a seer and a telepath, in addition to using a staff; you will now be using a staff sword with the head of a dragon biting a magic stone and a blade made of angelic ore. I chose a staff sword for you because you’re able to fight with swords as well as your staff. I have chosen for you some leather gloves, lined with a thin layer of titanium, to protect others from your abilities. Your staff sword will be connected to your magic and, with your telepathic powers, if it were to leave your hands during a fight it will return to you. It also amplifies your magic. You are strong alone, but with this staff sword you will be unstoppable. All of your gear is resistant to anything. That is all I have for you guys. Be safe.”

They are leaving when Drake stops, turns around and asks, “Brock, using my old sword and guns can you make some gauntlets and greaves for me, so I can fight more freely with my hands and feet?”

Brock, liking the idea, nops, “When do you want them?”

“As soon as you can get them finished. I want to start training with them as soon as possible.” Drake answers before turning and walking out.

Noryad, uncommonly impatient, says, “Can we go get our bikes now and get to the bar? We need to talk to the barkeeper.”

  ******

They arrive at the bar a few minutes later and locate the barkeeper. They approach him and Blaze asks, “What is the location of the Destroyer Lieutenant?”

The barkeeper answers, “He’s close to the underground tunnels looking for someone, but no one knows who he is searching for.” Having the information they need they nod to the barkeeper and leave the bar.

They’re walking from the bar toward their bikes when they all get a feeling like they’re being watched. They keep walking while Noryad looks, telepathically, for whomever is watching them. He finds her and discovers her name is Selene. He also discovers she’s watching Drake. He tells her telepathically, Selene we know you are watching us, better yet, I know you are watching Drake. Watch out next time for I won’t be giving you this warning again. Since I know you’re going to keep following us keep your distance, we are headed to the tunnels’ entrance to fight the Destroyer Lieutenant. With that he pulls out of her mind and tells Drake and Blaze, “There wasn’t anyone there, not that I could find anyway. We should keep going.” They nod, get on their bikes and leave for the tunnels.

  Chapter 3

Ten minutes later they arrive at the entrance to the tunnels to find the Destroyer Lieutenant sitting there waiting for them.

Blaze looks at him smugly, “Thanks for being here; it saves us the trouble of looking for you.”

The Lieutenant answers him with a sneer, “I’m not where I am in the Destroyers because I run away. I never run. I have been given the order to come here, look for the hybrid of the prophecy and kill him, before he can become a menace to all of us.”

Noryad looks at the Lieutenant in confusion. “So you’re telling me you were ordered to come here and look for someone that may be long gone from the city, especially if he knows you’re looking for him?”

Drake interrupts Noryad, “You have a point Noryad, but it also means there’s someone letting Destroyers through the barrier we put up so none of them could pass into the city.”

The Lieutenant looks at Drake with interest in his yellow eyes. “Good point, both of you, but that’s something I’m not going to answer. Now to the matter at hand, you’re either going to help me find the hybrid or you’re going to lose your life. Since the three of you have come here with deadly expressions on your faces, looking for a fight; I’m assuming you aren’t going to help me.”

They all answer at once, “HELL NO!”

The Lieutenant looks at them with a deadly look on his face and tone in his voice, “Have it your way.”

He snaps his fingers and four Destroye
rs appear out of thin air. Blaze whistles and moves to attack, when Noryad grabs his hand and tells him and Drake, “I’ll deal with this, you go take care of him.”

Drake and Blaze move as one toward the Lieutenant when a Destroyer moves to attack them. Noryad stabs the Destroyer with his staff sword and kills it, then tells the other three, “You’re fighting me.”

The three Destroyers, now angry because of the death of their comrade, give their full attention to Noryad.

Noryad knows the Destroyers are focused on him so he tells Drake and Blaze, “Go! I’ll catch up with you, trust me.”

Drake and Blaze disappear out of Noryad’s range of view as he notices, with his telepathic powers, that Selene is watching him now. He connects with her telepathically and tells her; Go and watch over Drake for me. Whatever you do don’t let him be killed, if you have to help him do it.

Selene, annoyed by Noryad’s intrusion in her mind, tries to push him out, but it’s too late. He’s already made a hole to get into her head when he needs to talk to her, so she answers him, I got it and you already know, from your intrusion into my head, that my mission is to watch him, you don’t need to tell me what to do.

Noryad, now smiling to himself, tells her, Thanks Selene, by the way, I’m Noryad.

Before she could answer him he pulls out of her mind, and turns his attention to the Destroyers.

He runs to the Destroyer on his right as he shoots a magic blast at the one on the left and telepathically pushes the one in the middle. He cuts the one on the right and jumps back as the three of them leap back to their feet and run toward him. Now more prepared, he decapitates the one on his right and kicks the one in the middle, but the one on his left cuts his arm. The Destroyer is thrown back by a magic blast Noryad sent at him and is plastered to the wall.

“I’ll deal with you after I kill this one”

He turns to the Destroyer he kicked and stabs him in the chest. The Demon evaporates into black, acidic smoke as Noryad lets the other Destroyer down from the wall. As soon as he is free the Destroyer attacks Noryad and cuts his leg. He feigns being injured and removes one of his gloves.
